Chemistry - The Science of Atomic Matter
Chemistry is the science of matter, its properties, structure, composition and its changes during interactions and chemical reactions. In particular, chemistry studies interactions between atoms, and chemical bonds.
The meaning of the word chemistry is often disputed. Chemistry can be traced to certain practices, known as alchemy, which had been practiced for several hundred years in various parts of the world, particularly the Middle East.
Chemistry is sometimes called "the central science" because it connects physics with other natural sciences such as geology and biology. Chemistry is a branch of physical science but distinct from physics.
A study of chemistry can lead to excellent opportunities in the chemical industry and is extensively used in Electrical Engineering, Forensics, Pharmacology and Medicines.
Many of the problems that face the world such as developing alternative energy sources, global warming and coping with disease epidemics require chemists and chemistry to engage in research to find the answers.
